Bloomsburg Falls to Edinboro in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team lost to Edinboro University, 66-54, on Sunday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cross-over game.

With the score tied at 8-8 five minutes into the game, the Fightin' Scots went in front for good on a couple of free throws from Kelsey Conklin. After extending the lead to six, 14-8, the Huskies got five straight points from Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) to close the gap to one at 14-13 with 13 minutes to play. Edinboro, though, slowly increased its lead to 11, 29-18, on a three-pointer by Samantha Reimer with 4:38 to go in the half. Bloomsburg did get back to within six at break, 31-25, after Kirby Johnson (Woodstown,NJ/Woodstown) hit a jumper and Laura Lyons (Hatfield/Pennridge) hit a pair of free throws.

In the second half of play, Edinboro pushed its lead to nine, 38-29, before the Huskies rallied. Gabe Mikinis (Lewistown/Lewistown) and Johnson each scored four points in a 12-3 run for the Huskies which tied the score at 41-all with 9:19 to play.

Later a Laura Lyons jumper tied the score for the third time in the half at 45-45 with 7:12 to play in the game. That, however, would be as close as the Huskies would get as Edinboro used an 18-2 run over the next five minutes to open a 16-point lead at 63-47 to put the game out of reach. Reimer keyed the run with eight points for the visitors.

Laura Lyons and Kegerreis led Bloomsburg (5-10) with 14 points each, while Kirby Johnson added 10 points. Gabe Miskinis added nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Edinboro (8-7) was led by Reimer and Kelly Calderdone with 14 points each, while Rae Sherred chipped in with 12.

The Huskies play at Millersville on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
